Our Story
The Stoneacre family is built on a shared love of good food, good drinks, and genuine hospitality. Founder Christopher Bender studied culinary arts and business at Johnson & Wales University before diving headfirst into the fast-paced world of New York City’s restaurant scene. With a deep-rooted passion for hospitality and a wealth of experience across both NYC and New England, he returned to his favorite stop along his culinary journey — Newport — to bring his vision to life. Stoneacre was born as a welcoming space where quality, community, and creativity come together.
Christopher’s personal story is just as rooted in connection. He met his future partner, Nicole Canning, during her visits home to Newport from abroad. What began as casual run-ins at the restaurant evolved into a food-fueled love story. Nicole, who grew up in her grandmother’s bed & breakfast, brings a lifetime of hospitality experience and warmth to her role as Director of Guest Services at the Chart House Inn, making every guest feel like family.
Together, they continue to grow the Stoneacre brand as a vibrant celebration of culinary creativity, local flavor, and heartfelt service.
